Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma cancer is caused by the lining of cells in abdominal cavities or chest. Generally, mesothelioma results by the exposure of asbestos. The doctor uses an instrument called thoracoscope to see inside the affected chest and the doctor uses another instrument called peritoneoscope to see inside the affected abdomen. Early aggressive treatment is required in mesothelioma.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma Cancer:

Some of the important symptoms caused by mesothelioma are

  • Shortness of breath.
  • Pain in Chest and Pleuritic.
  • Loss of weight.
  • Decreases appetite.
  • Develops Night Sweats.
  • Voice change.
  • Loss of diaphragm function.

Causes of Mesothelioma Cancer:

The mesothelioma cancer is mainly caused to persons those work in the areas where they mostly breath asbestos. It mostly affects the person over the age of 40 years. It also cause to the persons who live in asbestos house environment. Two or more months of asbestos exposure result in mesothelioma. Sometimes it happens after 30 to 40 years or even after 70 years.

Treatment options for Mesothelioma Cancer:

There are three different types of treatment for the persons affected in mesothelioma cancer. They are

Radiation Therapy:

Usage of high dose X – Rays or other high energy offered X – Rays to remove the cells of cancer and shrink tumors are done in Radiation Therapy. During this therapy the cancer becomes fluid and stored in abdomen or chest. To take out the fluid, the doctor uses a needle for suction. If the fluid is taken out from abdomen, it is known as Paracentesis. If the fluid is taken out from chest, then it is known as Thoracentesis. The doctor also uses a drug to deliver inside the body for preventing more accumulation of fluid.

Surgery:

            The treatment of mesothelioma cancer through surgery can be done in several methods. They are

  • Removing of Pleurectomy from abdomen or chest lining.
  • Depending on the spread of cancer, a Pneumonectomy operation is done to remove the lung.
  • Sometimes the lung is removed with diaphragm and lining in the affected area in an Extrapleural Pneumonectomy surgery.
  • The lining of lung is removed with tumor in a Pleurectomy or Decortication surgery.

Chemotherapy:

Chemotherapy is done with the usage of drugs to entirely kill the cells of cancer. This therapy uses a needle to deliver drugs in muscle or vein. The drugs used in chemotherapy are very toxic.
